CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Trait Boosts

Mithabel put an arm around Dylan’s shoulders and squeezed. “Are you all right?”

The Polynesian turned her gaze on the Elf. “I’m fine. How are you holding up?”

The Tank could lose herself in those sultry brown eyes, stroke those brown cheeks so perfect, so free of blemish. “I’m good if you are. Have I ever told you how damned pretty you are? I have this sudden urge to kiss you, and I’m not even that way, if you know what I mean. Did you do something to your skin? I can’t get over how radiant you are.”

The Priestess smiled broadly. “I added my assignable trait point to Beauty.”

“Damn, woman.” Mithabel stepped away with a laugh, looking Dylan up and down. “Is being a Priestess not good enough? Are you trying to become a Goddess?”

A tear crept from Dylan’s eye. She wiped it away. “No.” She laughed. “Yes.” A serious expression crept over her face. “No. No. I’ve always wanted to be... I mean, Debra Jones always wanted to be....” Her voice trailed off.

Debra Jones was always beautiful.

Mithabel echoed the sentiment to Dylan.

“Megan Wright was the only person who ever told Debra Jones she was pretty.” The Polynesian wiped away another tear. “But Megan and Debra aren’t here. It’s Mithabel and Dylan. And Dylan has the opportunity to make the whole virtual world see her as a stunning beauty. So she’s taking it.”

Mithabel wiped away a couple tears of her own and pulled Dylan into a hug. They held each other and laughed while they cried. Eventually they drew apart, remaining at arm’s length. The Tank stared at her friend. “The guys will go so crazy over you, they’ll be killing each other.”

Amarynth joined them, her gaze fixed on Dylan. “Wow. If we fight any other PCs, you’ll be the perfect distraction. The rest of us will mow them all down while they’re standing there, stunned by your beauty. Assuming we can take our eyes off you.”

“Oh, stop.” Dylan dismissed the possibility with a wave, but her smile proved she loved the compliment.

With a flurry of scaly wings, Rolag landed beside Amarynth. “You’re the very definition of beauty, my fair Dylan. You’re what every Dragon dreams of when a King sacrifices the most beautiful maiden in his kingdom to abate the Dragon’s wrath.”

Charli approached and slid her arms around the Archer’s waist. She bent back her neck to meet Amarynth’s gaze. “Your friend is pretty, but you’re still the heroine of the story.”

Mithabel fought off the green-eyed monster of jealousy. Dylan had her beauty and Amarynth had her adoring fan. What did Mithabel have? Danger Sense, Alertness, and Natural Armor. Functional but boring. “Kaleisha, what other traits are available for me to assign my newly earned trait point?”

“Sorry, chief, but you can only assign your earned trait point to a trait you already have, increasing it to rank two. Your choice which one. And it can’t be your kindred-based trait. In your case, you can’t use your assignable point to advance your Dark Sight trait.
